Tradition
1920s
The Croatian Truffle Institute is based in Livade, in the building where it was established for the first time, in the late 1920s, that Tuber magnatum Pico thrives in Istria.
1933
From 1933 onwards, Livade was the seat of the oldest company in the region dealing with truffles – Azienda del Tartufo – Sella, Hütterott and C. Levade.
1930s
Livade was also the base of operations of Ditta Emilio Facchini, a company that bought up, sold and exported truffles as a concession-holder of the Motovun Forest from the late 1930s.
1950s
From the 1950s, there was a well-known truffle buy-up post in Livade in the building of the former railway station (on the Parenzana railroad).
2000
In 2000, the first specialised truffle store in this part of Europe was opened in Livade — Zigante.
2002
along with a top-quality restaurant in 2002, whose entire menu is based on fresh truffles.
From mid-September to mid-November, Livade is the scene of the largest truffle fair in the region. Livade is located in the Motovun forest, the largest and most valuable truffle habitat I Istria, where the famed white Istrian truffle (Tuber magnatum Pico) thrives the best.
