The Croatian Truffle Institute is an independent scientific and research institution established in order to promote, preserve and scientifically study the truffle that thrives in Istria. The Institute protects the origin of the Istrian truffle, and is permanently tasked with supervising, monitoring, affirming and certifying its origin. Internationally, the Institute protects the distinctiveness and uniqueness of the Istrian truffle. The Institute is dedicated to combating unfair and fraudulent commercial practices that result in the marketing of truffles that do not originate from Istria as Istrian truffles. In that sense, the Institute is dedicated to the protection of all truffle enthusiasts and consumers.
The Institute provides education, carries out scientific research and produces professional articles on all areas connected with the Istrian truffle. In particular, it studies the origin of the Istrian truffle, its habitats, environmental protection and the natural determinants of its growth. The Institute promotes the protection of animals, truffle hunting and truffle hunters as well as the study of the legal regimes crucial for the Istrian truffle and truffle hunting in Istria. The institute places special emphasis on the law and legal mechanisms protecting, internationally, the Istrian truffle as well as other most prized Istrian products such as wine, olive oil, honey etc., with which the truffle is optimally paired.
