White truffle was declared the king among truffles because it belongs to the best ones, with the best properties (especially with regard to its smell and aroma), and it is also the most expensive. Its fruiting body has a round and irregular shape, and is as big as an average chicken egg, with some specimens being as small as a hazelnut or as large as a small melon. It mostly grows to 2-15 cm in size. Its rind/peridium is distinctly yellowish-white, yellowish-green or ochre (light brown) – the variations depend on the type of the habitat, primarily on the type of tree on the tip of whose roots it develops.
