Some farmer from a village near Livade caught truffles on his plough and, not knowing what use there was for those smelly bulbs, gathered them and brought them to a distinguished person in Livade – the wealthy Agostinelli. In the 1920s, Agostinelli was the only person in Livade to own a telephone. Not knowing what the mushrooms were and wishing to learn, he phoned his acquaintance – Baroness Barbara von Hütterott from Rovinj – who, encouraged by that news, sent to Livade a few truffle hunters with dogs to identify the mushrooms. They visited Agostinelli, examined those smelly bulbs, and realized that the white truffle (Tuber magnatum Pico) had been discovered.
